There are 3 different categories that you can buy a printer cartridge;
- “Genuine” cartridges
- “Compatible” cartridges
- “Refilled” cartridges
Genuine cartridges are simply described as cartridges made by the manufacturer that made the printer. These ar sometimes called OEM products, which stands for “Original Equipment Manufacturer”
Compatible products are brand new products that have been made by someone other than the manufacturer of the printer. For example “jet tec” is a manufacturer of compatible cartridges. They make new cartridges that are suitable for use in Epson, Canon, HP and other types of printers.
Refilled cartridges are cartridges that have been used and have been refilled with ink or toner ready for re use. This type of product is a topic unto itself that I will discuss in another article.
What about My Printer Warrantee
Contrary to popular belief the warrantee or guarantee on your printer remains 100% in tact regardless of which category of cartridge you choose to use. That includes Genuine, compatible and refilled cartridges, as we quoted from MyHomePrinters.com.
In fact it is against the law for an Original Equipment manufacturer to “Void” a warrantee or guarantee through the use of a non genuine part.
The reality of warrantees and guarantees is that the consumer is entitled to expect their product to function without fault for a reasonable period of time. They are also entitled to choose to use whatever consumable products they wish to operate the product.
In the event that a consumable product causes harm to the printer, under no circumstances does any one have the right to “void” the consumers entitlement to a warrantee or guarantee.
What simply happens is that the responsibilty for the consumer to be taken care of, shifts from the original manufacturer, to the retailer who provided the compatible product, and subsequently on to the manufacturer of the compatible product.
This is another reason to have trust in the retailer you choose to buy your compatible products from. In fact this is a question you ought to be proposing in your intial research.
If the retailer has complete confidence in their product, they should have no hesitation in accepting their responsibilties in this area.
Naturally you can expect that the retailer will want to make their own investigations as to the validity of the claim that it was their cartridge that was at fault.
This is only fair, however you would want to be sure that an independant person was employed to make that judgement.
