Kevin Rudd Twice as Popular than Julia Gillard.

January 30, 2012

A new Galaxy poll shows that ousted former PM Kevin Rudd remains twice as popular amongst voters than his successor who knifed him Julia Gillard.

Furthermore voters remain suspicious of the once faceless union powerbroker Bill Shorten who has been groomed as a potential successor to Ms Gillard should the incumbent PM’s popularity fail to clamour from its abysmal approval ratings this year.

The former prime minister leads Julia Gillard by 52 per cent to 30 per cent in a Galaxy poll conducted for News Limited.

In a similar poll conducted last October, Kevin Rudd was also well ahead, 53 per cent to 29 per cent, and in September, 60 per cent to 26 per cent.

Despite investing in a couple of new suits and shirts with double cuffs and cufflinks Bill Shorten remains a distant favourite with just 14 per cent backing.

The next election is due in the latter half of 2013.

It’s strange that Labor popularity shows an increase in that poll, I want a second opinion.

    Just in….

The latest Morgan poll on the Liberal Leadership:

    Turnbull 37
    Abbott 22
    Hockey 19

    Nielsen in Oct 11:

    Turnbull 44
    Abbott 28
    Hockey 23

    Let the chant begin…

    Malcolm! Malcolm! Malcolm!!

Kevin Rudd increases lead as preferred PM (33%, UP 2%) over Julia Gillard (19%, down 5%).

Macolm Turnbull still preferred Liberal Leaders (37%, down 1%) over Tony Abbott (22%, down 2%)

Bad news for Gillard isn’t good news for Abbott, but returning to Rudd seems pure folly.

I take solace in the good sense shown by those surveyed who spurn any idea of Abbott as PM.

  5. January 30, 2012 11:10 am

Yes, but the Coalition would still an election right now, quite comfortably…

    Joe Hockey would be Treasurer!

  6. January 30, 2012 11:12 am

Strange how Rudd and Gillard are so often compared but not Abbott and Turnbull …

Personally I prefer Turnbull’s personality to any of ‘em – if he’s gained some political nouse he’s a winner for me …

But the results did offer a boost to Labor’s primary vote, up from 29 per cent to 34 per cent, defying post-Christmas polling trends and putting Labor almost within striking distance of the Coalition.

Surprised they even mentioned that piece of floss. Who cares really, cos polls have always been about leaders, haven’t they?

We’re not interested in the parties performance.

Unless, of course, it is bad ;)

Turnbull is a rags to riches lad and I have a lot of respect for that. He has made some bad decisions, Gretch no less, and his support for the concept of global warming puts him out of tune with the Nats.

By now the bookies will be offering 20/1 on Smith?

  9. January 30, 2012 11:43 am

… but, egg, Turnbull, is the only one who looks and sounds like an Aussie PM! ;-)

  10. January 30, 2012 11:46 am

… and, egg, my version of rags to riches must be a little different to yours … not sure Mr Turnbull was ever a “working class lad” …

  11. January 30, 2012 11:49 am

Did you know that Talcum once grew up in a flat?

    A rented one at that I might add… ;)

“Turnbull, is the only one who looks and sounds like an Aussie PM”

    Agreed!

Although I did prefer him when he had a few kilo’s around his girth…

And he’s very active in working with his constitutents in Wentworth…

    Talcum for PM!

The punters still have Abbott in front by a length and closer to the rails Smith is running 4th, but that’s last week’s numbers.

Interesting to note… the punters think the election will be before June.

  13. January 30, 2012 11:50 am

Maybe it was more a “britches to riches” story…

You know about the rented flat, right?

Yes, it will take more than a cotton shirt and a silk tie to transform Shorten from hack to leader.

A very simple Question was asked on radio this morning.

If you are a very very loyal ALP supporter when does the moment finally come when you throw up your hands in total exasperation at just how pathetic the present government is ?

  19. January 30, 2012 6:50 pm

    Never?

    …I give up, when?

There’s no need to concede when the media & a host of other scapegoats are there to take the blame.

Right, if only the media would wait for a government press release (from the ever reliable media unit) before printing a story.

If they stopped reporting all the baseless speculation**, we’d all be better informed.

    **for example, stuff like-
    - Craig has a case to answer
    - Gillard is about to knife Wilkie.
    - Gillard is challanging Rudd
    - Abbott is entirely to blame for the protest

TB- it’s simply that barrackers have dismissed initial media reports of each of those issues as ‘baseless speculation’.

On various issues the media has accurately reported the political maneuvering, despite the initial denials of the government. Barrackers are entitled to be reminded of this.

‘KEVIN RUDD would keep the carbon tax if he replaced Julia Gillard as Labor leader and would not necessarily rush to an early election, his key supporters say.’LOSER

He has to abandon the tax or Labor won’t get in.

  24. January 31, 2012 9:50 am

Unsurprisingly, Bolt is running hard with the Australia Day affray. He insists on incessantly calling it a riot; quite a cheapening of the word, imo…but cheapening words by surrounding them with hyperbolic outrage is his stock in trade.

He sees this as the death knell of Gillard. Funny, he’s predicted her demise with various deadlines throughout 2011 & she’s still there & I imagine he’ll be equally wrong this time.

He is deafened by his own screeching.

    Disingenuous fuckwit.

I think Gillard is finished. There’s now a stench about the office of the Prime Minister, and she’s not up to figuring out how to recover.

I think they’ll move after 1 July – let Gillard suffer all the opprobrium for the ‘no carbon tax’ commitment, and let the new one get the glory for the tax cuts.

  26. January 31, 2012 10:44 am

    “I think Gillard is finished”

Crikey, sorry, I mean “the hate media” had an article yesterday that arrived at that very same conclusion. It’s just a matter of time.

  32. el gordo permalink

Simon hates the factions, but he is a team player, which suggests he’s a numbers man on this occasion.

It was Crean’s treatment by the power brokers and hacks (in Hotham) that was the nail in the coffin for the ALP, as far as I was concerned.

Remember how they tried to roll him in favour of ‘the outstanding young prospect’ Martin Pakula? (and hasn’t he made a huge impact in Victorian politics)

Remember what the hacks and power brokers objected to?

Crean sought to implement a recommendation from the Hawke/Wran Report, to provide ALP members with a little more voice.

It was typical of the putrid organisation to try to put the knife into Crean.

7.30 last night – Kathy Jackson (HSU) demonstrates remarkable bravery. She continues to take on the ‘boys club’ that previously ran the union as a … ‘boys club’.

It seems reasonable to ask why an investigation into misuse of a union issued credit card would take 3 years.

Though personally, I doubt whether it was necessary for any minister or his office to suggest a slow down. Fair Work Australia is just loaded with former union officials and public servants working at their typical pace. 3 years is understandable. They only do 10 minutes ‘work’ a day.
    =============
However, FWA has decided that Craig has a ‘case to answer’. This by the way was my point ‘elsewhere’, and over there, this is called ‘trolling’. So I’d expect to either have FWA called a troll, or an apology.
    =============
Meanwhile, rather than acknowledge that Craig ‘has a case to answer’ some ‘elsewhere’ have turned on Kathy Jackson. The same ones who recently turned on Andrew Wilkie.

That says something about them and their blinkered narrow-mindedness.

Go on, say something, you'll feel better...
