Premier Anna Bligh calls election amid shocking outrageous flood cover-up scandal claims!!
The Queensland of Premier Anna Bligh has announced that Queensland will go to the polls on March 24.
The announcement comes as the Premier was compelled to give the state’s floods inquiry more time to consider new evidence.
She has opted to push back the state’s 73 council elections and grant the Floods Commission of Inquiry an extension to its reporting deadline amid sensational claims of a cover-up by the state’s water authorities.
The inquiry’s report was due to be published on February 24, however commissioner Catherine Holmes yesterday requested time for more hearings after reports in The Australian newspaper cast doubt on claims by Seqwater over dam management during the height of the flood.
Ms Bligh said she originally wanted to hold the state election on March 3 but was delaying the lection to allow the inquiry more time to do its job.
According to the Brisbane Times, Ms Bligh said this morning she believed Queenslanders should be able to consider their verdict before voting on who should be the next premier.
“Like every other Queenslander, I want the truth,” Ms Bligh said.
The Premier denied the decision was made in the political interests of her Labor government.
‘‘I am acting here in the interests of Queensland, not in the interests of myself or the government,’’ she said.
However, the claims received short shrift from Brisbane’s LNP Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, who labelled it a “disgraceful decision”.
The inquiry will now have until March 16 to hand down its findings into last year’s catastrophic floods, which left large areas of Brisbane and other parts of the state under water.
Ms Bligh said she wanted Queenslanders to consider the report before voting, and said council elections which had been scheduled for March 31 would be moved back to late April or early May to avoid voters having to go to the polls again so soon after the state ballot.
The State Government will not enter caretaker mode until February 19.
Betting agencies have the odds at: LNP $1.11; ALP $6.25.
Who will you be voting for TB…???
ME!
Good to see such a balanced rational report reb
Next time less News Ltd bias more facts. The arguments over W2 or W3 have been widely reported so this makes it hard to be a cover up.
Balanced report! WTF!
I agree with NoQ that we MUST see the final Report …
… and then struggle with who to vote for …
… the dumb fashion chick with the high school treasurer … or the clown who would be Premiere of the 4th Reich …
Life’s a struggle … and now its pissing down … must be global warning!
seems like a lot of interest in Queensland elections, so can I just add,
I think my laptop is dying, battery check says it has lost capacity, even though it is plugged into the mains.
So, to buy a new battery or buy a new lappy?
Given that the lifespan of lappies is about 3 years I’m thinking the latter. Funny world.

Finally fashion catches up!
Socks and sandals are a great look, shows maturity and a fierce indifference.
That’s me to a T, egg … although the sandals should be matched to the socks (ie colour coded) … white is definitely out for us heteros though … sends the wrong “signal” …
What a craphole.
Anna looks like Golum with hair in that picture.
I tried to find the most flattering photo I could…
You always do…
Now that you mention it, the resemblance is striking.
